The Cincinnati Bengals wanted safety Vonn Bell in free agency in a bad way and have since proclaimed him as one of the best possible luxury signings.

How bad did the Bengals want Bell? According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Bell will take home the NFL’s highest reporting bonus Tuesday for merely showing up at Paul Brown Stadium.

It’s a small testament to how seriously the Bengals took getting Bell in the door well after some of their bigger spending sprees in free agency on names like D.J. Reader.

And part of that is Bell’s leadership factor — he’s already taking strides to advise his teammates on how to handle the coronavirus pandemic this season.

The pandemic has altered the normal reporting process too. Bell reports alongside his other veterans today but will take a coronavirus test — one of three before he can actually remain in the stadium and do normal football things like take a physical.
