The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t sitting idly by hoping things go back to normal.

No, a new era in Cincinnati headed up by a young coaching staff continues to find the positives as the globe grapples with the coronavirus pandemic.

While teams still aren’t permitted in facilities, Cincinnati coaches have used the all virtual format to put together something they can use for a long time, not just this offseason.

Here’s offensive coordinator Bill Callahan, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:

“When this offseason is done, we’ll have most of our installation and playbook in some form of voice-over or our install has been recorded. It will be good for future years when you want to give guys material. It helps in the short term and the long term. We’ll have an expansive library for future generations of Bengals.”

Voiceovers by coaches while film plays don’t sound like the most technologically-advanced thing in the world. But it’s something the team can ship to each player’s devices remotely and learning content that extends far beyond just this offseason.

Callahan says the varied looks into the playbook with voiceovers from coaches is digestible content, which seems fitting given the social-media age these days. It’s still not close to being as good as in-person coaching — but the adaptation to times is a good sign.

The efforts have the approval of players, too.

“The thing is, we’re just not around the building,” wideout Alex Erickson said. “So we’re losing a lot of opportunity to learn and this is just another way we can hear and see what the coaches are trying to get across. It’s extra.”

Extra or not, further modernization due to outside circumstances is a good development for the Bengals.
