The Cincinnati Bengals got busy early in free agency on Monday by agreeing to terms with offensive guard Alex Cappa on a four-year deal worth $40 million.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news.
Cappa’s an immediate upgrade at right guard for the line in front of Joe Burrow.
A third-round pick in 2018, Cappa is just 27 yards old and last year earned a 74.2 PFF grade with one penalty and five sacks over 1,182 snaps. He locks down right guard, which could mean someone like second-rounder Jackson Carman moves over to left guard to compete at a different spot.
Interestingly, this is the biggest cash the Bengals have ever thrown at a guard position. That, plus the fact the deal went live as soon as the legal tampering window opened, shows just how serious the team is about fixing the line in front of Burrow.
