The Cincinnati Bengals have a scrimmage Sunday and it’s one Zac Taylor and the coaches hope to have take the place of the third preseason game.

That third preseason game is always the “dress rehearsal” that sees the starters play the most snaps of any preseason game.

A look at the quick bit of info:

Barring a big change, Joe Burrow’s offense won’t have A.J. Green, John Ross or Joe Mixon due to minor injuries. But that didn’t exactly stop him from absolutely torching the defense during the first scrimmage.

Taylor told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com this one — fully equipped with stadium lights, scoreboards and more — is about getting as ready for Week 1 as possible.

“Depth plays into that as well as we get closer to (Sunday),” Taylor said. “But again, we want the players to feel that atmosphere as we walk onto the home field as we’re going to do on Sept. 13. We want them coaches up in the box. We want to iron out some of that communication. We’ll only have two times to do that over the course of training camp. We’ll have another one that will take place, usually where the preseason Game Four would fall into place.”

For as hurt as the weapons around Burrow are, so is the secondary with Trae Waynes likely out for the year, Mackensie Alexander absent for now and Darius Phillips sitting on a minor injury.

More so than most preseason events, this is the big one for the Bengals.
