New Cincinnati Bengals safety Nick Scott, one of the team’s prize signings in free agency after the departures of Vonn Bell and Jessie Bates, continues to work his way back from an injury this summer.

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, Scott had a torn bicep and torn labrum he’s been rehabbing while slowly getting back into the swing of things during practices recently.

“It took six months to heal. I’m 98 percent there. All I have to do is go back to L.A. to get cleared,” Scott said. “I could have flown back out now, but they told me there was no reason and I’ll wait to go when we’re done here.”

In the interim, a big chunk of the first-team reps have gone to third-round rookie Jordan Battle, who could play a bigger role in the base defense than one might have guessed initially when the team selected him.

Considering the Bengals go lighter than pretty much any team in the league at this time of year, it wouldn’t have been a shocker to see Scott join some other notable absences while he rehabbed away from the team last week and the next.

That he’s there says it all, though — and it sounds like he’ll be more than cleared and ready for training camp.
