The Cincinnati Bengals won’t risk franchise quarterback Joe Burrow during a Week 2 preseason game against the Washington Football Team.

Burrow was never a guarantee to suit up in the preseason, though his comments about preferring to do so in order to feel a live pass-rush gave some fans hope he might play.

But Monday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor confirmed Burrow won’t suit up on Friday, per ESPN’s Ben Baby.

This doesn’t mean Burrow won’t be on the field for the team’s third and final preseason game, where starters usually play the most in a final tune-up. But it’s not likely, either — why risk Burrow before the games matter?

We’re sure to hear more on this front over the rest of the week and weekend, but Burrow won’t get to play against the team that injured him last year.
