Major COVID-19 setbacks suffered by other teams have appeared to hit the Cincinnati Bengals before their season-ending game against the Cleveland Browns.
Tuesday, the team announced a slew of COVID-related moves. It placed the following players on the reserve/COVID-19 list:
- S Vonn Bell
- LB Akeem Davis-Gaither
- DE Trey Hendrickson
- C Trey Hopkins
- G Quinton Spain
The team also signed kicker Elliott Fry to the practice squad and moved tight end Mason Schreck to the practice squad injured list.
If there’s a silver lining to a protocol setback, it’s that this is early in the week and players have time to test out of protocols. Even better, the team already secured a playoff bid and the AFC North crown via the win over the Chiefs.
Still, Bell, Hendrickson, Hopkins and Spain are key starters who might have suited up next Sunday if the team wants to play its starters while fighting for AFC playoff seeding.
