The Cincinnati Bengals got out in front of the free agent market opening on Monday by re-signing safety Michael Thomas.
Per the team, it’s a one-year deal for the veteran heading into his age-33 season.
Thomas has been with the Bengals since 2021. He quickly became a key cog on special teams and is a big part of the continuity the coaching staff wants on Darrin Simmons’ unit. Teammates voted him a team captain last season.
While Thomas can also take reps at safety in the base defense, this move won’t stop the team from adding further depth with Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell scheduled to be free agents and first-round product Dax Hill ready to assume a starting role.
We have re-signed S Michael J. Thomas to a one-year contract extension for the 2023 season.
