Bengals release veteran safety Michael Thomas

A tough call for the Bengals during final cuts.

The Cincinnati Bengals have made the tough choice of cutting veteran safety Michael Thomas.

The Athletic’s Jay Morrison reported the news, adding the expected that the Bengals would try to bring back the 33-year-old special teams standout on the practice squad.

But the emergency of Tycen Anderson this preseason and the arrival of rookie Jordan Battle behind the starting duo of Nick Scott and Dax Hill made it tough for the Bengals to keep five safeties.

This way, if the Bengals can bring back Thomas on the practice squad, they can still have him in the locker room and on special teams if necessary.
