Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow torched the defense at a training camp scrimmage. Fellow first-rounder Jonah Williams has wowed onlookers too.
And so has Jacques Patrick.
For those asking “who?” upon seeing that name, fair enough. Patrick was a quiet signing by the Bengals in April, though it was pretty telling they really liked what they saw from the former XFL standout by giving him a three-year deal.
Patrick, a former Florida State star, flashed in a recent scrimmage at training camp. He had one sweep run to the left that went for a big gain and another where he broke tackles to get into the secondary. Don’t forget a touchdown, too.
The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. illustrated some of it:
Quick eye opening moment on the third-string live tackling drive. RB Jacques Patrick goes bonkers with a 41-yard run off the right side, then a barreling 14-yard TD run off the left. Nice showing by the UDFA.

It’s a good time for the Bengals to have a breakout player at running back behind Joe Mixon after the team had to waive Rodney Anderson.
And while Patrick still has to compete with Trayveon Williams for attention behind Mixon and Giovani Bernard, it’s these types of performances in a preseason-less offseason that help players make final rosters.
