The Cincinnati Bengals have come a long way from having the NFL’s youngest outright team in 2018.
After a flurry of offseason activity in free agency, the Bengals now sit nearly right in the middle of the league in terms of average age after cutdown day.
According to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice, the Bengals have an average age of 25.9 this year — up from the No. 1 spot of 25.2 in 2018.
The development doesn’t come as the biggest shock after Zac Taylor and Co. spent all offseason emphasizing proven leadership while spending big in free agency.
While the Bengals got younger at quarterback by swapping Andy Dalton for Joe Burrow, free-agent adds like Josh Bynes added some older age numbers to the average to counteract things.
In this case, older isn’t a bad thing — the plan is clearly to rebuild the culture the right way by having the older guys lead the young ones via example.
