Bengals quickly rule out Joe Mixon for Week 16 vs. Texans

The Cincinnati Bengals won’t have Joe Mixon this weekend.

The Cincinnati Bengals won’t have star running back Joe Mixon for this weekend’s game against the Houston Texans.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed the news ahead of the holiday, keeping it simple with ESPN’s Ben Baby: “We’ll see about next week.”

The team did the same last week before it took down the Pittsburgh Steelers on primetime, sending a heated rival into a tailspin of talks from coaches and players-only meetings.

Mixon has only appeared in six games this year after signing his big-money extension. He had a brief run of working on the rehab field before seemingly getting shut down again with what has been classified as a nagging foot injury.

The Bengals didn’t have many problems keeping the offense alive against the Steelers via a committee approach led by Giovani Bernard. And regardless of whether that happens again on the road against the Texans, don’t expect the team to activate and risk Mixon in the final game of the year.
