Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has never blinked when confronted with using his platform for non-football causes.
Burrow did so again on Tuesday when asked by reporters about the gun reform topic in the wake of so many mass shootings in the United States.
ESPN’s Ben Baby asked for his thoughts and Burrow went long on the topic.
“You know, with everything that’s going on, if you’re not going to outlaw everything, you’ve got to at least make it harder to get all those crazy guns that everybody’s using,” Burrow said. “I don’t think you should be able to just walk in there and buy one — you’ve got to go through a rigorous process to be able to buy something like that, I think. Hopefully, the people that get paid to make those decisions figure that out. My job is to play football, but hopefully, the politicians can figure that out.”
In the political sphere, gun reform has been largely split along party lines, though a bipartisan group of senators did agree on gun legislation recently.
As for Burrow on other off-field topics, he was recently announced as Kroger brand ambassador for his longstanding work on food scarcity and health initiatives.
Tuesday was just the latest example of Burrow using his massive platform for good.
