Bengals, Joe Burrow agree to 5-year contract extension

Joe Burrow and the Bengals get an extension done.

The Cincinnati Bengals and star quarterback Joe Burrow have reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension worth $275 million.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal includes $219.01 million guaranteed.

Previously, Burrow was set to play 2023 on the fourth year of his rookie deal, with the 2024 season his fully guaranteed fifth-year option at a $29.5 million cap hit. The extension tacks on to the back end of that, meaning he’s under contract through the 2029 season.

Since last season ended, plenty of speculation surrounded the extension, with some even floating the idea the Bengals could have been the first to set a new trend by tying Burrow’s extension to a percentage of the salary cap. All names such as Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin would admit, though, was that it was going to be a huge, deserved number.
