The Cincinnati Bengals let go of two wide receivers on Wednesday after adding a pair of players on the waiver wire.
Cincinnati announced the release of wideouts Mike Thomas and Trenton Irwin. This came hours after the team added defensive end Wyatt Ray and defensive back Nick McCloud on waivers.
Both Thomas and Irwin aren’t surprising cuts given the team initially carried seven wideouts on the 53 at the deadline. Irwin was a close call and Thomas loses out to someone like Stanley Morgan Jr. due to special teams.
The Bengals had to clear roster space after claiming two new additions on the waiver wire earlier Wednesday. Two other players are on the NFI list, meaning they can come back after three weeks, while breakout rookie star Joseph Ossai is on injured reserve, which prohibits his return.
