The Cincinnati Bengals are in a tough position in the 2021 NFL draft order ahead of Week 17.
Sitting fifth, there’s no guarantee a major name like Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell could fall to the team at No. 5.
But the New York Jets could always lend a helping hand.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets “are expected to make a big trade this off-season.” That could mean trading possible franchise passer Sam Darnold.
Or it could mean trading the No. 2 pick.
If the Jets trade the second pick in the draft it means selling it to the highest bidder who wants to take a franchise quarterback. Given how well rookies like Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert played this year, it’s then easy to see three quarterbacks coming off the board over the first three of four picks.
And if that happens, the Bengals could be looking right at Sewell at No. 5.
Granted, the Bengals still have to secure the fifth pick in the draft. But it’s a good example of one of the many scenarios that could unfold in front of them before the draft, helping them luck into an elite prospect like Sewell, or even a wideout like Ja’Marr Chase.
