The subject of Cincinnati Bengals wideout A.J. Green serving as a mentor to second-round rookie Tee Higgins isn’t a new one.

But it gets cast in an interesting light and comes to the forefront of the conversation now that Green will officially play 2020 on the franchise tag.

Count wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell as one of those folks hyped for Green to play the mentor role.

“Once Tee gets (Green’s) autograph and gets that out of the way, A.J. is going to be great for him,” Bicknell said, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Just being around a guy like that to learn from and be friends with and knowing both they’ll get along great. It’s big for Tee. Hey. It’s big for me. For everybody. A.J. is the kind of guy that makes everyone do their job better.”

Green was the most common pro player comp for Higgins as he entered the draft.

Even better, Green has already said he wants to be a Chad Johnson-like mentor for Higgins.

Interestingly, if things don’t work out between the Bengals and Green after the season when the two sides are allowed to talk about an extension again, Green will have spent the 2020 season guiding along his long-term replacement.

But as we learned in the top takeaways from Green’s media meet after signing his tag, he intends to play four or more years still.
