The Cincinnati Bengals have made official their Week 1 practice squad protections.

According to The Athletic’s Jay Morrison, the Bengals will protect the following players:

  • TE Mason Schreck
  • DE Amani Bledsoe
  • S Trayvon Henderson
  • WR Stanley Morgan

Protecting practice squad players is a new procedure to this season as an emergency detail due to the coronavirus pandemic. Practice squads have been bumped to 16 players this year and teams can protect four of them from getting claimed by other teams. Teams have to name their protected players for the week each Tuesday.

Cincinnati’s protected players this week are a little telling about how the staff feels about its practice squad. Schreck is a superb depth asset, for example, and Morgan is a special-teams ace.

The Bengals will have to announce four protected players each week and the rest of the practice squad is eligible to get claimed by other teams. Here’s a look at the entire practice squad list.
