The Cincinnati Bengals caught a break with the 2020 schedule — they’re among the teams slated to travel the fewest miles next season.
Call it a major win for an organization trying to get everyone on the same page as a second-year coaching staff, reshuffled defense and rookie quarterback try to make it all work quickly.
The Bengals already play a (potentially) soft schedule based on last year’s finish. But they also travel just 7,516 miles, as charted by Touchdown Wire’s Barry Werner. That slots the Bengals fourth out of 32.
A few lucky breaks play a part here. The Los Angeles Chargers play at Paul Brown Stadium in Week 1. Most road trips are shortish East Coast hops to places like Philadelphia, Washington, New York and Miami.
Granted, we still don’t even fully know what home-field advantage will look like in 2020 as restrictions due to coronavirus vary by state. But merely not traveling as much as other teams is a small, if not notable advantage.
