The Philadelphia 76ers have two of the game’s brightest stars in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. The two of them have accomplished so much in their NBA careers and are held in high regard when it comes to league rankings.
However, there have been plenty of questions about whether they actually can co-exist and win together. There have even been questions about whether they even like each other.
As training camp for the 2020-21 season gets underway, Simmons is ready to move forward with Embiid and get on the same page with him. Even if it means moving in together!
“I’m moving in with Jo this month to get closer with him and learn his game and know him off the court,” he said with a laugh. “Nah, but we hang out. Everyone’s life is different, but I think we’re only going to grow and get better with time. Everyone has their personal things that they do, same as me, but Jo and I are great.”
Obviously, it was a joke, but to have Simmons and Embiid on the same page is a very good thing.
Veteran Dwight Howard had just spent a season playing with a superstar pairing in LeBron James and Anthony Davis and he watched them win a title together. Howard mentioned how close the two of them were and how they did everything together while explaining that Simmons and Embiid must do the same.
“Over time, our relationship continues to grow,” Simmons added. “We keep jelling over time and knowing each other off the floor, also, and that translates to on the floor. Dwight is completely right about that. I think this year’s going to be great for us.”
The Sixers will go only as far as Simmons and Embiid will take them and it is important that they are on the same page. The pairing is two of the best players in the league and it is time for them to take steps forward.
“I think Jo and I both realize how unique and special this moment is for two guys like us to be on the same team at such a young age,” Simmons finished with. “Everybody wanted it to be in the first couple of years, but it obviously didn’t happen and it doesn’t work like that. Now we have a new opportunity, we have new guys on the team, new leadership, and I think we can go all the way. I wouldn’t be saying that if I didn’t believe it. I don’t think Dwight would be here either if he didn’t believe it.” [lawrence-related id=39810,39807,39804]
