Ben Roethlisberger lays out how he would handle the Steelers offense

When he was the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger never saw a deep pass he didn’t like. Now, even in retirement, his mentality about how to handle the Steelers offense hasn’t changed.

On his podcast, Roethlisberger talked about the Steelers struggling offense and rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett. Roethlisberger says the Steelers have nothing to lose at this point and if he were the offensive coordinator he’d throw deep on first down, second down and third down.

Pittsburgh has been throwing the ball deep this season, more than the critics want to accept. But lack of success in those deep throws has led to offensive coordinator Matt Canada going all the way in the other direction and turning ultra-conservative and the most inopportune times.

Pittsburgh traded wide receiver Chase Claypool at the trade deadline. This should have an impact on the efficiency of the passing offense but it remains to be seen if it will be positive or negative.
