The Twitter account of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has long been known for its aggressive use of the “block” button.
If you tweeted anything negative at the @_BigBen7 account, you’d get blocked. It was a guarantee. And often, users who had never even interacted with Roethlisberger’s account would stumble across the news that they had been blocked by Roethlisberger’s account.
Basically, whoever ran the @_BigBen7 Twitter account would search for Roethlisberger references and hit “block” … in addition to blocking negative mentions.
Well, for the thousands of fans who made up the “Blocked By Big Ben” club, it’s probably a good time to check Twitter because Roethlisberger is unblocking everyone.
According to ProFootballTalk, those behind Roethlisberger’s account (he doesn’t run it himself, apparently) have decided to unblock all the blocked accounts starting this week.
And come Wednesday, fans already noticed that the blocks had been lifted.
I’ve been unblocked and want to get blocked again so bad. @_BigBen7 you coward https://t.co/mELWRKZ9mL

It remains to be seen how much leeway Roethlisberger’s account will give to users now, but the people behind the account had to realize that the mass-blocking didn’t exactly help Roethlisberger’s reputation. It made him look worse.
