Bears wide receiver Marquise Goodwin’s bid for another Olympics has fallen short. Goodwin competed in the long jump qualifier at the U.S. Olympic trials Friday afternoon, where he failed to finish in the top-12 and qualify for the finals on Sunday.
Goodwin, who Chicago signed to a one-year deal this offseason, represented the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics. His bid for the 2016 Olympics fell short, and, unfortunately, the same was true for 2021.
Bears coaches embraced Goodwin’s desire to go to another Olympic games, per the Chicago Tribune. And Goodwin even believes he’s even faster than his 4.27 40-yard time back during the Scouting Combine in 2013, just one year after his Olympic appearance.
Goodwin even told Matt Nagy, “Coach, I’m faster now than I was when I came out.”
“Anytime you have an Olympic mentality you are different,” Nagy said. “That’s a minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour regime that you are keeping your body in shape. … For him, that’s never going to change.”

Given Goodwin failed to qualify for the finals even with his flashy speed, it’s a testament to how impressive track athletes have been.
