Bears slip, then slide to victory in season opener vs. 49ers

The Bears upset the 49ers 19-10 to open the season, and the offense had some fun celebrating as heavy rain came down on Soldier Field.

The Chicago Bears pulled off a Week 1 upset with a 19-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Following a brutal first half, the Bears answered with an impressive second-half outing and were able to best the 49ers as a monsoon descended upon Soldier Field.

No one gave the Bears a chance against the 49ers, and the players certainly had some fun celebrating after the victory.

As the final seconds ticked away, members of Chicago’s offense, including Justin Fields, sprinted to the end zone and slid in the rain soaked field to celebrate their impressive victory.

“We talked about it right before we took the last knee and all the guys were excited to run to the end zone,’’ Fields said. “That was a snapshot moment for sure.”

The Bears now sit atop the NFC North at 1-0 — at least until the end result of the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings game.
