The Chicago Bears are in the middle of their general manager and head coach searches, where they’ve been making their way down their extensive list of candidates.
While the Bears would like to have a GM in place before hiring a head coach, they wouldn’t hesitate to do things backwards if one candidate stands out above the rest.
Maybe that guy is Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bears have scheduled a second interview with Eberflus, an indication that he’s a finalist for Chicago’s head coach vacancy.
Eberflus interviewed with the Bears on Monday, so he clearly left a strong impression.
The #Bears are scheduling a second interview with #Colts DC Matt Eberflus next week, per source.
So Eberflus is now a finalist for two jobs: Jacksonville and Chicago. His Indy defense has been top-10 in many categories the past four years.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the interview is expected to happen Monday, which means that Chairman George McCaskey and his hiring team will likely be conducting the interview without a new GM in place.
Eberflus has been coaching in the NFL since 2009, where he served as linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns (2009-10) and Dallas Cowboys (2011-17) before becoming the Colts defensive coordinator in 2018. Eberflus interviewed for head coaching jobs with the New York Jets and Houston Texans last year.
