Bears rookie QB Justin Fields received a thrilling ovation at Cubs game

Justin Fields hasn’t even taken a snap for the Bears, but he’s already arguably Chicago’s biggest star right now.

Rookie quarterback Justin Fields hasn’t even taken a snap for the Bears, but he’s already arguably Chicago’s biggest star right now.

The excitement surrounding the Fields selection by the Bears has been nothing short of remarkable. But it’s not surprising for a franchise that hasn’t had a franchise quarterback in decades. And Fields seems to have everything you could want in a franchise quarterback, giving him a good chance to rewrite the poor quarterback narrative in Chicago.

Fields was in attendance at Friday’s Chicago Cubs game — along with fellow 2021 draft picks Khalil Herbert and Thomas Graham Jr. — and was recognized on the Jumbotron at Wrigley Field. As you can imagine, the Bears fans in attendance showered Fields with love, giving him a standing ovation that left Wrigley rocking.

Fields’ reception at the Cubs game is a stark contrast to how former No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky was welcomed to Chicago when he was booed at a Chicago Bulls game shortly after he was drafted back in 2017. And we all know how that one turned out.

It remains to be seen whether or not Bears faithful are right in their praise of Fields so early in his career. But, right now, Fields has brought hope to a franchise that hasn’t had it for a long time.
