The Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Nagy after four seasons, which finds them searching for their 17th head coach in franchise history.
Bears Chairman George McCaskey will head the search for a new head coach and GM, alongside President/CEO Ted Phillips and Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian.
The attention is on Chicago and their head coach search, where McCaskey said they won’t necessarily look for an offensive or defensive guy. They’re looking for the best guy for the job.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bears have requested to interview Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus for their head coaching vacancy.

Eberflus has been coaching in the NFL since 2009, where he served as linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns (2009-10) and Dallas Cowboys (2011-17) before becoming the Colts defensive coordinator in 2018. Eberflus interviewed for head coaching jobs with the New York Jets and Houston Texans last year, and he left an impression on Houston.
The Bears have also requested interviews with Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett among others.
