Bears QB Justin Fields gives self-evaluation of his play through first 6 games of 2022

Justin Fields evaluated his play through the Bears’ first 6 games: “I can get better at everything, regarding quarterback play.”

Bears quarterback Justin Fields was brutally honest following a Week 6 loss to the Commanders last week, where he voiced his frustrations about another loss.

“I’m tired of being almost there,” Fields said after the game. “Tired of being just this close. Feel like I’ve been hearing it for so long now.”

So how does Fields get past the frustration of last week’s loss to the Commanders?

“I have the same frustration after every loss,” Fields said Thursday, via WGN. “I don’t like losing. I’ve told you guys that a couple of times. It’s just seeing where you can get better and seeing where you can improve. Watching the film, of course, it hurts.

“Just seeing where you can get better at, what I can do better as a quarterback, and just trying to get better each and every day.”

Fields has had a rough start to his second season, where he’s been among the most-sacked and pressured quarterbacks through six games. He’s looked uncomfortable and indecisive, and it’s hard not to believe he’s regressed.

There’s no denying Fields doesn’t have the supporting cast a young quarterback needs to succeed. His offensive line struggles in pass protection, his receivers struggle with separation or dropping passes and he has a first-year play caller in Luke Getsy.

But Fields also deserves his fair share of the blame for the offense’s struggles. Fields is holding onto the ball too long, his internal clock has sped up and he’s not ripping the ball when he needs to.

Fields gave a self-assessment of his play through the first six games of the 2022 season. And he didn’t hold back.

“I can play better,” Fields said. “I’m always going to be like that. Like I said, I’m a perfectionist, but it’s hard to be perfect. Like I said, I can get better at everything, regarding quarterback play.”

Everything is pretty broad. But you have to appreciate the honesty from Fields, because it’s true.
