Bears place RB Khalil Herbert on injured reserve

The Bears will be without RB Khalil Herbert for the next four games, as he’s landed on IR with a hip injury.

The Chicago Bears are placing running back Khalil Herbert on injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Herbert suffered a hip injury in Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions. With Herbert landing on IR, he’ll have to miss the next four games. He’s eligible to return in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills.

Outside of quarterback Justin Fields, Herbert has emerged as the top rushing threat for Chicago. In 10 games, Herbert has 108 carries for 643 yards (6.0 average) and four touchdowns.

The good news is the Bears have David Montgomery, who has been their primary runner, although he hasn’t found as much success as Herbert this season. Montgomery has 115 carries for 434 yards (3.8 average) and two touchdowns.

Chicago has the NFL’s best rushing offense, averaging 201.4 yards per game. The Bears are the only team in NFL history to rush for more than 225 yards in five consecutive games. Over the last month, Fields has been a huge contributing factor.

With Herbert on IR, look for rookie Trestan Ebner to get some looks. It also wouldn’t be a surprise to see Darrynton Evans elevated to the active roster from the practice squad.

The Bears also waived defensive end Kingsley Jonathan and claimed defensive back Justin Layne off waivers.
