The Chicago Bears have placed wide receiver Darnell Mooney and safety Eddie Jackson on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.
The news doesn’t come as a surprise after Mooney (ankle) and Jackson (foot) both suffered significant injuries in last Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mooney and Jackson are both expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 season.
Mooney will require season-ending surgery on his ankle, which leaves Chicago without its top wideout. Mooney leads the Bears with 493 receiving yards on 40 catches with two touchdowns.
Jackson reportedly suffered a Lisfranc injury on his foot, which leaves Chicago down another defensive leader. Jackson had a bounce back season with the Bears in 2022, where he leads the team with four interceptions.
With Mooney and Jackson landing on IR, Chicago has promoted rookie safety A.J. Thomas from the practice squad to the active roster. The Bears are also signing veteran safety Adrian Colbert, per his agents.
