The Bears are preparing to face the 49ers to open the 2022 NFL season, where Chicago’s offense has an opportunity to silence the doubters that have ragged on them throughout the offseason.
Not that it’s going to be an easy task facing a loaded San Francisco defense. But coming off an encouraging performance in the preseason finale — where they were about as vanilla as a unit can get — the Bears offense is looking to make a statement right out of the gate.
Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy will be looking for three things from his offense when they face the 49ers.
“When you put the tape on, you want to see guys that are firing off the football, that are finishing—playing the play longer than everybody else—and then we’re taking care of the football,” Getsy said, via ChicagoBears.com. “We sit on those three principles; pretty much every single day we hit on those and we’re about those three things. So if we can see those three things, we feel like we’ve got a chance.”
For Getsy, hitting those principles is more important than any specific statistical goals.
“I genuinely am excited to put our play style on film,” Getsy said. “We talk about that in our room about how we want that film to look. Not putting an expectation of a thousand yards in a game or 60 points in a game or something crazy or anything like that. We want the play style to be right, we want the mindset to be right, we want to take care of the football. We’re going to do all those things, be great situationally. We’re staying pretty focused on our main goals, our main philosophy.”
We don’t really know what to expect from this offense heading into Sunday’s opener, which makes it exciting for Bears fans.
But if Chicago has any chance of pulling off an upset against San Francisco, a strong offensive outing would go a long way for the Bears.
