CBS Sports believes Bears’ Matt Eberflus is the worst head coach in the NFL.

The Chicago Bears stumbled to a 3-14 record last season in the first year of their rebuild under general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus.

CBS Sports‘ Cody Benjamin ranked all 32 NFL head coaches heading into the 2023 season. While no one expected Eberflus to be among the best, it was shocking to see Eberflus ranked 32nd — that’s right, dead last. Which is surprising, especially considering there are four new head coaches this season.

It’s not all Eberflus’ fault he debuted with a stripped-down roster, but if you’re gonna be a defensive HC in today’s NFL, you’d prefer not to shepherd one of the league’s worst units on that side of the ball. A big leap from QB Justin Fields would help.

While the Bears finished with the worst record in the league, Eberflus’ team was competitive throughout the season — and with arguably the worst roster in the NFL and injuries to key starters. In fact, eight of Chicago’s 14 losses were by one score. So it seems ridiculous for Eberflus to be ranked as the worst head coach int he league.

As for the rest of the NFC North, Green Bay’s Matt LaFleur tops the division at 11th with Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell (17th) and Detroit’s Dan Campbell (22nd) right behind.
