Bears HC Matt Nagy doesn’t care that you hate him

While Matt Nagy doesn’t like the hate, he accepts it. And it quite frankly doesn’t sound like he cares.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy is the most hated man in Chicago and likely the football world right now. And it’s easy to see why following the Bears’ putrid offensive outing where they amassed just 47 yards in Justin Fields’ first NFL start, which was a complete disaster.

Nagy has come under fire this week, from fans and media alike, following his questionable game plan for Fields and inability to make adjustments in last Sunday’s loss to the Browns.

While Nagy doesn’t see the hate firsthand, aside from the boos at Soldier Field which should plentiful on Sunday, he does hear about it from those closest to him. While he doesn’t like it, he accepts it, and it quite frankly doesn’t sound like he cares.

“We’re so dug into the game planning and entrenched in what’s going on, you don’t know all the social media world or whatever’s said on TV,” Nagy told reporters Wednesday. “You don’t see it. But you get a text from someone saying they’ve got your back.

“It comes with the territory. Do you like it? No. But the competitor in you accepts it… If I let the other distractions take away from anything, then that’s taking away from them. And I’ve got a hell of a support system of family and friends. That gets you going a little bit.”

In case you, like Nagy, haven’t been paying attention to social media and what’s been said on television this week, there have been national analysts calling for Nagy’s job after his negligence in regards to his usage of Fields and Nagy’s inability to make any sort of adjustments to do something about it.

We’ve certainly come a long way from that 2018 season, where Nagy had Bears fans and national media eating out of the palm of his hand. And with a tough upcoming stretch of games, things are only going to get worse, especially if another six-game losing streak is in the cards.

Let’s see how he handles the hate then.
