The Aaron Rodgers saga is finally over, but it’s not exactly music to Bears fans’ ears.
While the door was open for a potential Rodgers trade outside the NFC North, the Packers signed Rodgers to a massive four-year extension worth $200 million with $153 million guaranteed.
That means Rodgers is under contract through the 2024 season, which means he’ll be Green Bay’s quarterback for the entirety of Bears quarterback Justin Fields’ rookie deal.
For the most part, Bears fans took the news in stride with the understanding that Chicago is going to need to find a way to finally get over the Packers hump if they’re truly going to contend for a championship. And the hope is they can do that with Fields and a rebuilt roster. That’s not likely to happen this year, but the Bears were never going to contend immediately.
