Bears defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad was among the standouts during Monday’s practice — the final before the pads finally come on.
While the defensive line brought consistent pressure on quarterback Justin Fields, it was Muhammad who would’ve had multiple sacks on Fields — had he been able to hit the quarterback. But how many exactly?
“A couple,” Muhammad said with a smile.
It actually might be closer to three, according to NBC Sports Chicago’s Josh Schrock. But I digress. Simply put: Muhammad had an impressive practice, and he hasn’t even gotten a chance to show what he can do when the hitting starts on Tuesday.
Muhammad’s goal for the 2022 season is simple: Wreak havoc on the quarterback.
“Get to the quarterback and hit the quarterback as many times as I can,” Muhammad said. “That’s pretty much it. I don’t really have a particular number, just do it as many times as I can do it.”
Muhammad comes to Chicago after spending the last four years with Matt Eberflus in Indianapolis. Last season, he had career highs with 6.0 sacks, 13 QB hits and 48 total tackles.
Muhammad is battling third-year pro Trevis Gipson for the starting job off the edge opposite Robert Quinn. But with Eberflus’ defensive line rotation, regardless if he wins the starting job, Muhammad is bound to get plenty of opportunities to get after the quarterback this season.
