Bears’ Darnell Mooney has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in 2021

The future is bright for Bears WR Darnell Mooney, who eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards on the season.

There hasn’t been a lot to love about the Chicago Bears on offense this season, but wide receiver Darnell Mooney is certainly one of those exceptions.

Entering Sunday’s finale, Mooney needed 71 receiving yards to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark. And he didn’t even need an entire first half to get it.

Mooney hauled in an 18-yard reception, his sixth of the game, in the second quarter to give Mooney 71 receiving yards and 1,000 receiving yards on the season.

Mooney is the first Bears draft pick to accomplish the feat since Alshon Jeffrey in 2014.

Mooney, a former fifth-round draft pick, continued to ascend in his second season, establishing himself as Chicago’s top receiver. And the fact that Mooney was able to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in this abysmal offense is impressive.

With Allen Robinson set to depart in free agency, Mooney is key for this Bears offense moving forward with other key pieces in quarterback Justin Fields, running back David Montgomery and tight end Cole Kmet.
