Bears claim WR Nsimba Webster off waivers from 49ers

The Bears claimed WR Nsimba Webster, who should serve as a special teams contributor returning kicks.

With cutdowns taking place around the NFL, a handful of talented players hit the waiver wire with the potential to be claimed from teams across the league. If a team claims a player, they must join the 53-man roster.

The Chicago Bears put a claim in on wide receiver Nsimba Webster from the San Francisco 49ers.

The addition appears to be primarily a special teams move, as Webster specializes in returning kicks. Last season with the Los Angeles Rams, Webster returned 25 punts (7.4-yard average) and 16 kickoffs (21.7-yard aberage) while playing only 8 offensive snaps.

The Bears are in need of a punt returner after they waived rookie Dazz Newsome, who was the primary punt returner. Wide receiver Damiere Byrd was listed as the backup punt returner.

All 21 players the Bears placed on waivers, including wide receiver Dazz Newsome, cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. and outside linebacker Charles Snowden, were not claimed. Expect to see a good number of those players, including those just mentioned, back with the Bears on the practice squad.
