The Cleveland Browns have some clarity, at least for one week, on the status of quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mayfield will start for the team this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers after being medically cleared to play.
The Browns ruled their starting quarterback out for Week 7 due to his continued issues with his shoulder. It was reported then that Mayfield had a fracture as well as a completely torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Case Keenum played well in place of Mayfield but was just holding the position warm until the starter could return from injury. It was unknown how quickly Mayfield’s shoulder would be cleared by the medical staff to return.
Today, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that the medical staff had cleared the former #1 overall pick and that he would start against the Steelers. With T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt and the rest of the Pittsburgh front seven coming into town, the Browns must be careful with Mayfield.
The likely return of Jack Conklin at right tackle and Nick Chubb at running back should help provide some protection in Week 8.
We will monitor all the injuries into the weekend to confirm who will be available.
