After posting a video on Instagram in an “I can’t breathe” shirt on Instagram Saturday, Baker Mayfield took time out of his day to respond to at least one comment.
“Please tell Browns fans you’re not going to be kneeling this season,” the fan commented on Mayfield’s post.
The third year quarterback replied: “pull your head out. I absolutely am.”
Mayfield has been one of many vocal athletes to speak out on George Floyd’s tragic death, as well as racial injustice.
The former Oklahoma quarterback then sent out a message to all his followers: “Everybody so upset about my comments doesn’t understand the reasoning behind kneeling in the first place… Nate and Kap came to an agreement that kneeling was the most respectful way tp support our military while also standing for equality.”
“If I lose fans, that’s okay. I’ve always spoken my mind.” The post read at the end. “And that’s from the heart.”
The Browns are set to begin preseason against the Bears on August 15 at 12 p.m in Chicago.
