[autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag] has had a season for the ages, helping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win the NFC South and reach the playoffs for the second time with Mayfield at the helm.
In the Bucs’ 27-19 win over New Orleans on Sunday, Mayfield threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, surpassing 4,500 yards and 40 touchdowns in the 2024 season. Tom Brady praised Mayfield for one incredible touchdown throw.
According to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com, Mayfield became the 10th player in NFL history with more than 4,500 yards and 40 touchdowns in a season. He joins a list of quarterback legends and current stars: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Joe Burrow, Andrew Luck, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford.
That’s an elite group of quarterbacks Mayfield joined with his career season for Tampa Bay.
Mayfield and the Buccaneers won six of their last seven to win the division and make the playoffs. This came after a four-game losing streak put Tampa Bay at 4-6 on the season.
This season, Mayfield has thrown for more than 300 yards in a game six times. He has eight games with at least three passing touchdowns and had a five-touchdown game in a 48-14 win over Carolina on Dec. 29.
He ranks third in the NFL in passing yards this season and second in the league in passing touchdowns. Mayfield’s season helped Tampa Bay rank as the No. 3 total offense in the league and the No. 4 scoring offense this season.
