Bailey Zappe hopes to remain Patriots starting QB in 2024

Bailey Zappe still has his eyes set on the starting QB job for the Patriots

New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe hopes to be on the roster next season, after starting the final five games of 2023.

The Western Kentucky product was named the full-time starter, beginning with the Patriots’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 7. The team went 2-3 over the five-game stretch, with the other win being a last-second thriller against the Denver Broncos.

Zappe threw for 1,272 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions on the year and finished with a quarterback rating of 23.2.

Decisions are going to have to be made in regards to personnel for 2024, but Zappe clearly still wants a big role on the team.

“I have the confidence in myself to know that I think I can go out there and lead a team and win games,” Zappe said, as transcribed by NESN’s Zack Cox. “Of course, I want it to be here. I’ve always dreamt of playing in the NFL, and of course, I want to be a Patriot.

“So whatever is decided this offseason, I’ll be ready for training camp. I’ll come to compete and do everything I can to help this team win. Hopefully, that’s (as) a starter, and hopefully we can win.”

It will be interesting to see what happens to Zappe and how that shapes the quarterback room moving forward.

New England will be in line to select a new signal-caller with the team holding the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Where exactly Zappe fits into all of this remains to be seen.
