Baffling decision by Chargers coach Brandon Staley shocks Keenan Allen

Keenan Allen could not believe the strategy his coach Brandon Staley employed

Brandon Staley lives by analytics. Many times he has seen them cross him.

On Sunday in Cleveland, he got lucky because Cade York was unable to connect on a 54-yard field goal in the final seconds.

The Chargers came away with a 30-28 road victory but nothing can explain what the Chargers’ coach did to give the Browns the ball back with little over a minute remaining.

Cleveland was out of timeouts and the Chargers faced a fourth-and-2.

Justin Herbert tried to draw Cleveland offside and that didn’t work, so LA called a timeout.

Time for the punt team to pin the Browns in their own territory, right?

WRONG!

Staley decided to send the offense on the field, again, and Herbert failed to connect with Mike Williams.

Los Angeles wide receiver Keenan Allen, who missed the game due to a hamstring injury, was astonished.

The Browns had the ball and life. They moved it to the Chargers’ 35 and rookie Cade York came on to attempt what would have been a game-winning field goal.

He missed, wide right, and Staley can thank his lucky stars.
