Wisconsin has reached out to Payton Sparks, a 6-foot-9 sophomore big man from Ball State who recently entered the transfer portal.
Despite being in the midst of deep run in the National Invitation Tournament, the Badgers have remained active in the transfer portal. They’ve reached out to multiple players this week, including Khalif Battle from Temple.
Sparks appeared in 31 games with Ball State this season and helped the Cardinals reach the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The big man averaged 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds and would be a helpful frontcourt addition for whatever program he ends up with.
Some of the Badgers’ critics have slammed the team for its lack of depth at forward behind Tyler Wahl and Steven Crowl in 2022-2023, so Sparks would certainly help quiet that conversation next year if he ends up in Madison.
