Back 4 Blood studio bought out by Tencent

Turtle Rock Studios is now part of Tencent.

Turtle Rock Studios, the developer of Back 4 Blood, is now part of Tencent.

Announced Friday seemingly out of nowhere, Tencent  acquired the California-based studio. However, Turtle Rock Studios is going to retain independent operations internally. President and general manager Steve Goldstein was quite happy about the acquisition.

“We are all looking forward to joining the Tencent family of studios,” Goldstein said  in a press release. “Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit.”

According to IGNBack 4 Blood  itself will not be affected by this purchase, as Warner Brothers published that title

“We are huge fans of Turtle Rock’s games, especially their amazing approach to creating co-operative online games,” Eddie Chan, chief strategy officer of Tencent Games Global, said  in a press release. “We can’t wait to see what comes next, and we’re excited to be part of their future.”

Given how recent this acquisition is, it’s unlikely that we’ll see anything published by Tencent from Turtle Rock Studios for quite some time. Back 4 Blood, the studio’s most recent title, was pretty darn good, though.
