Aussie Pipeline: Iowa Hawkeyes land another punter from down under, Rhys Dakin

After a historic career from Tory Taylor, the Iowa Hawkeyes hit the Aussie pipeline again. This time, a commitment from punter Rhys Dakin.

Just as we all expected, the great pipeline from Australia to Iowa City, Iowa. It is alive and well and the Iowa Hawkeyes are taking advantage of the connections that they have made.

Tory Taylor, a Melbourne, Australia native, joined the Hawkeyes after competing in Australian football. All he did was go on to have one of the most legendary careers a collegiate punter has ever had.

Iowa is dipping back into the Australian pipeline and has landed their next punter from down under with Rhys Dakin announcing his commitment to the Hawkeyes. The punter will join Iowa’s 2024 class on scholarship.

Dakin is also hailing from Melbourne. He attended Prokick Australia, like Tory Taylor, which has become a huge success in training punters and kickers to play American football. Per their website, they have landed 190 kicker scholarships totaling 45 million dollars. Six Ray Guy winners started with Prokick Australia and 15 have gone on to play in the NFL or CFL.

Rhys Dakin already seems to know the importance of not only distance on his punts but also how important hangtime is.

LeVar Woods and Kik Ferentz pride themselves on special teams coverage and Dakin is in line to be the next piece of that. He has big shoes to fill in Tory Taylor, but the relationship between the two Aussies should only fuel Dakin’s success.
