Auburn’s spot in the way-too-early bracketology from ESPN

Let’s talk Auburn basketball brackets.

It isn’t just the ridiculously early mock drafts that are making the rounds, Joe Lunardi of ESPN released his way-too-early bracketology for the 2022-23 college basketball season.

The Auburn Tigers and head coach Bruce Pearl want to build on last year’s regular-season SEC Championship and have a better showing in the tournaments. After securing the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, the Tigers had an early exit and didn’t fare much better in March Madness.

With a new group of players, Pearl is hoping they can be closer to the 2019 Final Four team. Newcomers Yohan Traore, Johni Broome, Chance Westry, and Tre McDonald join a squad that is losing two of their best players in Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler.

Looking at next year’s team, Lunardi has Auburn as the No. 5 seed in the Midwest Region that features perennial top teams the Baylor Bears, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Florida Gators also check in at No. 9 in the bracket.
