Auburn’s fall in the USA TODAY Sports re-rank continues following loss at Missouri

Auburn drops seven spots in this week’s ranking after blowing another double-digit, 4th quarter lead.

Things continue to get worse for the Auburn Tigers football program.

Auburn fell to 0-4 in SEC play last Saturday by losing to Missouri, 21-17, on the road. Hugh Freeze’s bunch led by three points heading into the final minute of play, but a four-yard rush by Missouri running back Jamal Roberts took the lead away from Auburn, thus handing them the loss.

For Auburn, it was the second time in SEC play that they have lost a double-digit lead in the 4th quarter. Auburn fell to Oklahoma on Sept. 28 after owning a 21-10 lead with less than nine minutes to play. The Tigers struggle to close games out, leading to another significant drop in the USA TODAY Sports re-rank.

Auburn checks in at No. 90 in this week’s ranking by Paul Myerberg, a seven-spot decrease from last week’s ranking. Auburn is one spot below Miami (Ohio) and one notch above South Florida heading into this week’s action. The win for Missouri over Auburn was not deemed impressive by Myerberg, as they remain at No. 23.

Auburn’s next opponent, Kentucky, also took a hit with their ranking after losing on the road at Florida, 48-20. The Wildcats now sit at No. 64, a nine-slot decrease. Auburn battles Kentucky on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
