Auburn dropped its fourth consecutive game last Saturday when Ole Miss entered Jordan-Hare Stadium and stole a 28-21 win.
The Tigers were outgained by Ole Miss, 425-275 yards, and passed for just 122 yards collectively.
How does their performance against the Rebels affect their place within The Athletic’s 133 college football ranking? The answer… not much at all.
Chris Vannini of The Athletic released his weekly re-ranking of college football teams on Monday and is keeping Auburn at No. 56 this week despite the loss to Ole Miss. Auburn is one spot below Toledo and is one place above UNLV. The win helped Ole Miss in a drastic way, as the road win pushed the Rebels to No. 13 this week, up from No. 17 last week.
Auburn’s next opponent, Mississippi State, jumped to No. 49 after defeating Arkansas on Saturday. The road win over the Razorbacks allowed the Bulldogs to climb three spaces from No. 52. Arkansas’ loss dropped the Razorbacks from No. 62 to No. 70.
The highest-ranked team remaining on Auburn’s schedule is Alabama, who checks in at No. 8 after beating Tennessee convincingly at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
