After a difficult two-week stretch that saw Auburn softball win just two of six games, the Tigers got back on track by sweeping Missouri last weekend at Jane B. Moore Field, which not only boosted confidence ahead of this week but also put them above .500 in SEC play.
It was a big weekend for Auburn’s defense and pitching staff. Auburn pitchers struck out 26 Missouri batters over the weekend, with Maddie Penta owning 25 of those. In Saturday’s series-opening game, Penta struck out 17 batters, which ties an Auburn record against SEC opponents. Auburn’s defense also went through the entire series without causing an error.
Because of their successful weekend, the national polls gave the Tigers a boost in three of the four national rankings.
Here’s a look at where Auburn stands in the national polls ahead of this week’s action at Samford and at home with Ole Miss.
