Auburn remains outside of AP poll ahead of Cal game

Auburn is one of three SEC teams that are on the doorstep of a top 25 ranking.

Auburn handled business last Saturday by defeating UMass, 59-14 in the first game of the Hugh Freeze era.

The win was not enough to push the Tigers into the national rankings, as they remain on the outside of both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the Associated Press poll.

The latest edition of the Associated Press poll was released Tuesday, and Auburn joins fellow SEC squads such as Mississippi State and Arkansas as teams that occupy the “receiving votes” category. Other teams of note joining Auburn are Troy UCF, Texas State, and Iowa.

Six SEC teams make up this week’s AP poll. The Georgia Bulldogs occupy the top spot following a convincing win over UT-Martin last Saturday. Alabama and Tennesee join Georgia in the top 10 at No. 3 and No. 9 respectively.

LSU fell nine spots to No. 14 after a tough loss to Florida State, while Ole Miss climbed two places to No. 20 after winning big over Mercer.

Over the next five games, Auburn will face three teams that are currently ranked in the AP top 25: Texas A&M, Georgia, and LSU.
